Bernard Zakheim’s Living Art

Bernard Zakheim was well known for his mural, The Library, in Coit Tower and as a Bay Area Artist. Born in Poland in 1896, he came to San Francisco in 1918. His works were financed by the Works Progress Administration under President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
Murals and art include

Zakheim’s son Nathan and daughter Masha tell of their father’s early work, the story of the Coit Tower murals, his life story and his production of art in the Bay Area. The three WPA videos were viewed at Lesher Gallery in Walnut Creek and other art venues showing WPA art.
